- Solid Wood, Veneer, or Particle Board

Furniture can either be solid wood or veneer, meaning less expensive wood is covered with a thin solid wood finish. Eschewing veneer and particle board creates the longest-lasting, highest quality possible.
Stay away from particle board no matter what the sticker price says! This ‘wood’ is used as a base for much modern furniture. This practice is typically a sign of cheap furniture, as it will not stand up to heavy use over a long period. Its composition is a combination of wood pulp or sawdust, plastics, glue, and/or resin – resulting in a material that is not as solid or durable and contains formaldehyde, which is a potent chemical.

- Cushions and Upholstery
Depending on the level of use the furniture you are seeking will undergo, the ability to clean the cushions is vital to maintaining its appearance. You should check that the cushions can easily be removed and either cleaned by hand or professionally, especially if they are leather. For things like armchairs, dining chairs, and even couches, you should be able to remove the cushion covers from the foam easily. Although this may seem like worrying too much in advance, it will also make it easier to change the colour or the material in the future to revamp a room.
- Glue, Nails, Screws, and Joints
All the furniture at Oriental Casa is constructed using wood joinery-this is where notches are cut into wood pieces and each fit together perfectly, creating seamless construction. Our team in China uses no nails, screws (which are often used by high-quality furniture manufacturers) or glue when constructing our furniture. If you can visibly see adhesive or glue holding parts of the furniture together, what you thought was high-quality is lower quality. No one should be able to easily see any materials that hold the furniture together.
- Knots
Knots are natural in solid wood and are also the areas of the tree that are weaker than the rest. If your furniture has visible knots, it means that the wood is weaker than it should be, and therefore high-quality furniture manufacturers stay away from using pine, which is typically a very knotty wood.
